A healthy pond environment is needed to get the maximum production of tilapia.
- Temperature: 24°C- 34°C, dissolved oxygen: 5-7.5 mg/liter, pH: 6.6-8.5, transparency: 30-40 cm.
- Fill water as needed to maintain the required water level and to support for algae growing, in this condition, water color should be kept green or yellowish green.
- The amount of stocking is high, the amount of fish poop will increase, so it is important to clean regularly and to sanitize the pond.
- Fish pond sediments will accumulate and toxic organisms also can accumulate at the bottom of the pond after culturing for a long time with large number of fish, so bacteria and virus can multiply.
- Therefore, ensure improvement of sediments at the bottom of the pond.
- If oxygen deficient is occurred in the pond water due to any reason,
-
- Stop feeding and fertilizer application immediately.
- Stir up the pond water with bamboo to recirculate pond water.
- Use 500-700 g of Oxyflo/oxyflife per acre.
- Fill the pond with clean and oxygen-rich water.
- If the red layer is occurred on the water surface, remove it by dragging with rope made from straw or banana leave; apply urea at the rate of 10-15 g per ac for two or three times every 10-12 days; use 10 kg of potassium aluminum sulfate per ac.
- Apply 100 kg of gypsum per acre if dark green bloom emerges in the pond water.
- If the pond water becomes turbid, use burnt lime at the rate of 50 kg/ac (or) apply gypsum 100-150 kg/ac (or) use 100-150 kg of dry rice straw per acre (or) apply 25 kg of potash alum/ac.
