Scientific Name - Mythimna separata ( Walker, 1865)
Occurrence Stage - Seedling Stage and Vegetative Stage
Nature of Damage - Mianly feeds on leaves and inflorescence. Rice fields can be destroyed at the same time.
Damage Symptoms - Large cuts at the basal region, fallen of seedlings, leaves cuts, eating the whole leaf leaving the midrib, destroying of flowers and grains, falling panicles on the ground

Best Control Measures
Make ditches and barriers between fields
Fill the dithes with water and kerosene
Pick eggs and larvae by hand
Grazing ducks into the rice field where there is high larvae density
There is no resistant variety to armyworm
Chemical Control
Spray with contact insecticides such as Malathion, Chlopyriphos, Carbofurum-3 G at recommended doses.

1-5 larvae per plant before panicle formation (or) 9 larvae per square metre
1 larvae per hill (10 panicles) at panicle formation
