Rice Cut Worm and Its Control

Scientific Name - Spodoptera litura

Occurrence Stage - Vegetative Stage, Flowering Stage, Grain Filling Stage

Nature of Damage - Larvae cut and chew the leaves.

Damage symptoms - Leave cuts and in severe infestation, defoliation around the plant base

Control Measures 

  • Use egg and larval parasitiods to reduce the pest density

  • Egg parasitiods (Telenomus remus)

  • Egg and larval parasitiods (Chelonus heliopae)

  • Larval parasitoids (Apanteles rufierus/ Campoletes chloridae/Hyposoter didymator)

  • Conehead Cricket (Conocephlus Sp) eat rice cutworm’s eggs. 

Chemical Control 

  • Use (Cypermethrin/ fenvalerate/endosulfan/Quinalphos/ monocrotophos/ methomyl) at recommended rate.
