Monitoring the Fish Ponds

Monitoring the Fish Ponds

  • Check whether the water level drops or not and whether the water leaks or not.

  • Measure dissolved oxygen level, pH and water temperature at about 8-9 am.

  • Use a Secchi disk to check the transparency of the water.

  • Monitor the behavior of the fish such as swimming, feeding, aquatic respiration, etc., and occurrence of dead fish.

  • Also check the entry of wild fish into the pond.

  • pH of water must be measured again in the afternoon around 1:30 pm and also check whether feed remains or not.

  • In the late evening, also check whether feed remains or not and, whether fish breathe on the water surface or not.

  • In the rainy season, the drain system must be checked since the pond can flood, wild fish can enter into the pond, and tilapia can escape out of the pond.

  • Always be aware of the updated weather information and prepare for unusual and extreme weather conditions.
