Feeding Rate and Points to be Followed in Feeding

Feeding Rate and Points to be Followed in Feeding
  • Must be fresh, high nutritious food that fish like.

  • Ensure the amount of feed and sometimes, the amount of feed must be changed depending on weather condition.

  • Feed at the same time and same place to accustom the fish to feeding time and place.

  • Divide the daily feeding into two times when the temperature of the pond water is 28-32°C.

  • Feed once between 8 am and 10 am in the morning and once between 2 pm and 4 pm in the afternoon.

  • It can be fed more on sunny days since dissolved oxygen level in the fishpond will increase.

  • The dissolved oxygen level will decrease in misty, cloudy or rainy weather condition, so do not need to feed more than usual in this condition.

  • The appetite of the fish will be lost when there is no wind or during thunder shower. In this case, reduce the amount of feed or stop feeding, particularly when the weather changes suddenly.

  • Supply additional feed and apply fertilizer moderately as needed if the pond water becomes brown or dark green.

  • When decomposed material and debris are dumped at the bottom of the pond, the pond will overfertilized with excess nutrients and pond water becomes a thick dark green or black. Moreover, it will observe floating the scum of dead algae on the surface, fish will swim weakly and gasp for air. (to check)

  • In this condition, reduce the feeding or stop the feeding and fill or replace haft of the pond water at once.

  • The feeding place should be checked about one hour after feeding every morning and evening.

  • The amount of feed should be increased if it has not eaten within 2-3 hours of feeding, and decrease if it has not been eaten within those 2-3 hours.

  • The feeding behavior and activities of fish always must be checked, whether feeding commercial or farm-made feed.

  • The quality of feed used determines the fish health, growth and yield.
