Nursery stage – Drain properly and do not irrigate the nursery bed, as long as there is enough moisture. This will help good aeration for the roots resulting roots growth ensuring short and strong seedlings. (Seedling stage)
Before planting – Ensure proper drainage before planting by allowing excess water to drain from the field. This is important to prepare the soil and create favourable conditions for transplanting or direct seeding.(seedling stage)
Late vegetative to ripening stage- Reduce the water level in the field gradually during the late vegetative stage and early reproductive stage. This helps in promoting roots development and prevent excessive water during the grain-filling stage. (vegetative stage, flowering stage & ripening stage)
Pre - harvest- Draining the field a week or two before harvest helps in facilitating the harvesting process and improves grain quality.( harvest stage)
