Recording pig production

Recording pig production

The farmer needs to records of production to monitor the growth (feed changes), the reproduction of the sows (number of piglets per litter/year), timely vaccinations and treatments, taking into account of profits, etc.

Identification of each sow and breeding is very important, either by ear cutting, ear tattooing, or ear piercing.

Farm records are kept next to the pens so that relevant information is readily available when inspecting the pigs.

Importantly, the sow productivity card/table is used to check that each sow is achieving satisfactory results.

A weekly activity schedule should also be maintained, monitoring all stages of production.

There are 5 important stages for good growth rates. Weight should be monitored at all of these stages. If pig grows at the following stages, it is best:

Pig mortality rate must be minimized at all levels, not just during the breastfeeding period.
