Rice yield can be decreased from one third to half of potential yield due to weeds
In the transplanting fields, if water is maintaining continuously in the plot, mainly to suppress weeds, rice roots do not get enough oxygen and become weak, that will result with plant lodging.
In the broadcasting fields, if too much seed rate is used, to suppress weeds, it will increase seed costs.
In addition, if there is too much plant population for the purpose of weeds control, there will be competition for nutrients and light, resulting with small sized panicles and decrease in number of seeds per panicles.
If weeds are controlled by using weedicides/ herbicides, it requires to strictly follow the instructions for effectiveness.
If herbicides are used every year continuously, there is potential for damaging bio-diversity, degrading of environment, soil depletion and soil stiffness can be occurred.
