Using natural plant-based pesticides is an effective way to prevent and repel pests without relying on synthetic chemicals. Simple local plants such as safflower, chili, garlic, and lemongrass contain natural active ingredients that can disrupt the feeding of insects without affecting the beneficial bacteria and microorganisms in the soil.
Key Ingredients and Functions:
Safflower: Contains azadirachtin, which helps prevent the feeding and reproduction of insects (such as aphids or caterpillars).
Garlic and chili: Has a pungent odor and spiciness (capsaicin) that helps repel plant-sucking insects and ants.
Lemongrass: Contains natural aromatic oils that help mask the smell of plants, making it difficult for insects to find the plants.
Techniques and Steps:
Step (1): Prepare the Ingredients: Crush or grind the safflower, garlic, chili, and lemongrass leaves finely to release the active ingredients and aromatic oils.
Step (2): Soaking the ingredients. Put the crushed ingredients in a container, pour clean water into it, and leave it in a dry place or a refrigerator for 24 to 48 hours.
Step (3): Filtering. Filter the soaked water with a fine mesh sieve to remove any residue that may clog the spray nozzle.
Step (4): Mixing and spraying. Mix the filtered solution with clean water (generally 1 part solution to 10 parts clean water). Spray on the leaves and stems of the plants in the early morning or cool evening.
Step (5): Collecting the waste. The plant waste left over from the filtration can be used as compost or covered around the roots of the plants.
