I'm harvesting my rice soon, but the local collector is offering a very low price. How can I protect my income and ensure a better price for my hard work?

The price is low because collectors often discount for high moisture and debris. To negotiate a better price: 1. Proper Drying: Sun-dry your paddy to below 14% moisture content (the standard for milling and export). Wet rice degrades quickly. 2. Clean the Grain: Separate straw, chaff, and stones. Clean, high-quality paddy fetches a higher price. 3. Group Sales: Talk to other farmers in your village about forming a small farmer group or co-op to pool your harvest. Selling a large, consistent volume of quality paddy gives you more bargaining power against middlemen and allows you to approach rice mills directly.
