Some diseases often occur with Pangasius

Fish diseases are a major problem in the aquaculture sector during the culture season, where farmers must frequently check the health of fish in case of parasitic diseases or other diseases that cause fish death (document from the Aquaculture Development Department of the Fisheries Administration).

Causes of the disease were from several basic factors that cause fish disease.

- When the pond water polluted

- Excessive number of fish in the pond

- When fish are infected with parasites, bacteria, fungi, and viruses, etc.

Symptoms of fish with disease.

- If the fish are not feeding much and the pond water is acidic, you need to improve the water quality by adding lime or changing 50% of the water.

- Fish swim abnormally, without good balance, most of the time that fish gulp on the surface without direction, indicating that the fish has a parasitic or bacterial disease or due to fungi attached to the body.

- Early in the morning, fish rise to the surface of the water for a long time and they gasp for air (gasping), taking in air from the atmosphere because the pond water lacks of oxygen.

- Fish body change the color.

- Fish scales and fins are broken.

- Fish gill turn to pale color.

- Wound also begin to appear on the body or gill.

- Swollen the stomach or eyes

- Some parts of the body are injured and bleeding slightly.

- In the case of parasites, we can see them with our eyes because occur outside body.

- There are injuries on the head, sometimes the bones can be seen.

Prevention and treatment

Prevention: Because fish live in water, it is difficult to detect diseases, and when diseases are detected, treatment is also difficult.

Therefore, prevention is better than cure. There are important measures to prevent fish diseases, including:

The fish cultured must be appropriate density in the pond, without stocking too many.

Before stocking fish in the pond, make sure that the pond has been cleaned and all infectious organisms have been killed.

Use lime and fertilizer properly according to the technician instructions.

Provide good quality feed and fertilize regularly.

Do not allow excessive green moss to grow, find a solution.

The pH level of the water and the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water must be maintained at a sufficient level.

Treatment: There are many treatment methods depending on the type of disease, and there are basic simple methods for treating fish diseases.
