Selection of Good Quality Chicken Breeds

Selection of Good Quality Chicken Breeds
  • Chicken for breeding purposes must be selected from newly hatched chicks.
  • In the same flock, each chick has a different body shape, size and growth rate.
  • The back of the chick should be wide, when it is viewed from above.
  • Body length should be well developed.
  • Chest should be wide when viewed from the front, and the feet are wide when standing.
  • Chest must be narrow when the two feet are close together.
  • Eyes should be clear, round and sharp.
  • The practice of selling the biggest chickens in a flock first and continuing raising the rest of the small chickens, should be avoided because it leads to the loss of good quality chickens.
  • The best practice to maintain good breeds is to leave and continue raising 2-3 chickens that have proper body shape and highest body weight, at the time of selling the chicken flocks.
