• Immediate treatment because if a piglet has diarrhea for more than 2-3 hours, it will become weak and difficult to recure.
• If piglets have diarrhea at 1 day age, check the udder, temperature, and milk production of the sow, as milk is the main cause of diarrhea for piglets.
• In such cases, we need to treat both the mother and the piglets.
• For piglets:
Use colistin with ampicillin, injected intramuscularly twice a day until recovery.
Piglet cages must be covered to protect them from cold winds or heated using electric lamps, gas lamps, earthen pots with charcoal, or charcoal-burning stoves, because cold or freezing temperatures in the cage can cause pigs to have diarrhea, especially at night.
After birth, the piglets should be given first milk as soon as possible because it contains antibodies that can fight E. coli.
• For Sow:
We can treat with trimethoprim with sulfa, injected intramuscularly once a day for 3 consecutive days.
