Pond digging method

Pond digging method

First, need to measure the length and width of the pond to be dig by setting up stakes at the four corners  and roping around.

Then, Determine the area of the pond bottom to be excavated using the following formula:

  • Generally, the slope of the dike should have a slope of 1:1.5, and then stakes should be placed at all four corners of the pond bottom, with roping  around.
  • Then, start digging the pond with a slope of 1:1.5, for example, from the edge of the pond mouth down to the edge of the pond bottom and to depth of 2 meters. Then, take a line to measure the slope. If the slope is perfectly flat, we start digging the pond with this model slope and continue until the end.
  • We can dig a pond by setting the model footing in the shape of stairs, as in the image below.
  • Generally, the topsoil digged from the top layer is a type of soil that rich in nutrients, so this topsoil should be collected and placed on the edge and slope of the pond for planting grass, which prevents erosion during rainy season.
  • Dig a pond with a slope of dike 0.7 meters to 1 meter or according to actual soil conditions.
  • The pond edge and the slope must be soil compacted and grass planted on the edge.
