Stocking

Stocking

When stocking fish for culture, the following techniques must be taken into:

  • When the fish stocked in the pond, soak the bag of fish in the pond water for 15 to 20 minutes to gradually bring the temperature of the water in the bag and the water in the pond to the same temperature, so that the fish can begin to be released from the bag slowly.
  • Then open the bag and pour the water into the bag.
  • Avoid releasing fingerling from a bag or container into the pond immediately, that can make the fish more likely to die after being released into the pond.

Should follow the photos below:

Fish cultured in ponds should be 5 centimeters in size so that have a high survival rate after being stocked in the pond.

Avoid stocking small fingerling, which will culture fish in the pond less productive due to the predator.

In small scale fish farming, farmers can only stock 3 to 5 fish per square meter.

In order for fish farming in ponds to produce good production and large quantities, fish should be raised in ponds connected to rice fields and additional feed should be provided.

The fish cultured must be healthy, tolerate disease and infection.

Therefore, should get fingerling from a source that you know is tolerate disease other.

Also, the fingerling should not have any wounds or sores on its body, body should be straight, have a bright color, and be swimming quickly.

To ensure a high survival rate for the fish, after adding the fish to the pond, prepare the water for good quality, bright green, and no toxins.

Also, avoid releasing fish when about to rain, during rain, after rain, or at night because there is no sunlight, which can easily cause the pond water to lack oxygen, increase toxins in the pond, and easily cause the fish to die.

Types of carp fish cultured in small scale should be as shown in the table below:

Table: Amount of carp fingerling to culture by each species of fish (in percentage)

After stocking fish in the pond, pay attention to the following:

- Check the natural feed in the pond, such as Phyto and zooplankton and benthic animals such as snails and worms.

- How to check the natural feed, should follow the above method.

- In cases where natural feed (Phyto and zooplankton) are not available or small quantities in the pond, should add animal manure according to the technique described.

- Additional feed should be provided to fish when it is observed that there is no or a lack of natural feed in the pond.

- Additional feeds that should be given to fish include worm snails, termites, duck weed, rice bran, vegetable waste, kitchen waste etc.

- Fish should be given additional feed twice a day and should be fed during the day, which makes it easier to monitor.
