Fingerling Transportation

 • Transporting fingerling requires the following technical considerations:

Nearby transportation

- The transportion of fingerling in short distances must be a motorbike, bicycle, or rickshaw, depending on the location, distance, and quantity of fingerling to be transported.

- Equipment for transporting fingerling over short distances must include a basket and sacks or banana leaves  placing bottom the basket under the fingerling bag.

- In case of transporting the fish over a short distance, you can use a container and cover on top by banana or lotus leaves to prevent the water from dripping out with fingerling when transporting the fish.

Long-distance transportation

- Equipment for transporting fish with long distances must include an oxygen tank for air exchange, bag for transporting fish and a rubber for changing when the fish bag leaks or tears. There should also have sack for covering the fingerling bag from the outside to prevent the bag from leaking or tearing.

- Generally, the fish bag length or height of 0.8 meters and a width of 0.6 meters, that can hold 100 to 200 fish size 5 to 7 cm for long-distance transportation.

- In case of transporting fish over long distances, the transporter should know how to tie the fish bags as shown in the picture below.

How to pack fingerling bags using oxygen

- The apropriate time to transport the fish should be during clear or cool weather to keep the fish healthy and transportable for a long time.

- In case of transporting fish during very hot or very hot weather, arrange the transport facility to provide shade that protect from sun light and avoid arranging shade to closely cover that prevent the air, as this will increase the heat in fingerling bag.

- If possible, transporting the fingerling in a vehicle with air conditioner is preferable.

- In the case of transporting fingerling over long distances or transporting at night, the packing fingerling bags must prepared before 01 day of transport and then catching the fingerling from the pond and nursing them in a tank, and must provide constant water flow and do not feed to keep them healthy that can transport for a long time, and prevent many fish dead.

- The water in the fish tank must be of good quality. Avoid using pond water that is too turbid or has a foul odor, or ground water with low dissolved oxygen levels, or water that may contain other toxins. Pond water with high dissolved oxygen levels or water that is free of toxins should be used to fill the fingerling bag.

- In case of changing new water in the bag during transportation, should taking consideration on the source of water that make sure with good quality and free of toxins so that the fingerling are healthy and high survival rate.
