Cashew trees are tall and long-lived plants, with a lifespan of up to 20 to 30 years, similar to mango trees. Therefore, to achieve high yields, cashews need sufficient light to produce good quality nuts. Cashew crops should be planted at the following spacings:
• Most fertile soil: 10 meters by 10 meters or 100 trees per hectare.
• Well-fertile soil: 8 meters by 8 meters or 156 to 180 trees per hectare.
• Poorly fertile soil or type 3 soil: 7 meters by 6 meters or 205 trees per hectare.
