Boar and gilt selection

• Selecting a good breed of pig is very important to benefit from pig production because one gilt is bred directly with 10 to 15 boars.

• The selection criteria are as follows:

 Avoid inbreeding: Do not choose to breed with pigs from the same family.

 Choose piglet born from a sow with strong the lettert.

 Choose from a sow with many children and breast no less than 12 (6 pairs grow well).

 Boar should grow faster, be healthy, and have strong legs, even nails, and straight legs.

 The boar must have good reproductive organs (both testicles are intact).

 Smooth fur, multiple-feeding, active, wide-open mouth, straight back, open chest.

 Never had any infectious diseases.
