Stocking density of the fingerlings depends on the type and duration of the cultural system.
For semi-intensive monoculture system, the stocking density is 12000-20000 fingerlings pre acre or 3-5 fingerling/m2.
In intensive mono species culture system, the stocking density can be higher.
If tilapia is raised with polyculture system, the density of tilapia must be determined depending on the species mix.
Stocking density is 6000-8000 per ac for one-inch size fingerling, 5000-6500 per ac for two-inches size fingerling, 4500-6000 per ac for three-inches size fingerling, 4000-5500 per ac for four-inches size fingerling without supplementary feed.
If the supplementary feed is used, stocking density is 8500-11500 per ac for one-inch size fingerling, 7000-9500 per ac for two-inches size fingerling, 6500-8500 per ac for three-inches size fingerling, 6000-8000 per ac for four-inches size fingerling.
If the size of fingerling is larger than 3-5 g, they can be directly stocked in growth out pond.
