Losses can occur at every stage from harvesting to storage.

Especially, losses can occur due to weather conditions. For instance: heavy storm rains at the time of monsoon rice harvest , coincide with start of moonson rain during summer rice harvest time.

(1) Quantitative Losses (reduction of rice yield)

(2) Qualitative Losses (poor seed quality, poor germination, high broken percent while milling, yellow rice, etc)
