Harvesting should be carried out when 80-85% grains has turned straw color and ripened.
Early harvest can result with immature and unfilled grains. Late harvest will lead losses due to shattering and cracking by over-ripening.
Harvesting process should minimize wastes and use the threshing machine immediately after harvest.
In conventional harvesting method, there are many possible losses at every step of harvesting process; drying of paddy bundles in the field, transporting of bundles, threshing, drying and winnowing.
When harvesting and threshing process are done by machines, these steps and losses will be reduced.
